Environmental Policy Statement

 

Righthouse Limited Trading as Crystal Doors -manufacturers of vinyl wrapped doors in Rochdale, Lancashire - is committed to Environmental Quality and Efficiency. In working towards these objectives and ISO14001 certification, the company endeavors to prevent pollution and meet or surpass all relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation to ensure the protection of its employees, the community at large and the environment. The company intends to set, improve and review its environmental standards on a continual basis.

In striving to carry out all its operations in an environmentally sensitive manner, the Company aims to minimise the consumption of resources, releases to the atmosphere; water consumption and waste disposal. Where practical, the Company seeks to follow good environmental practice on purchasing, energy use, transport and waste management.

The Company promotes the dissemination of good environmental practice and plays an active role in developing opportunities for more sustainable vinyl wrapped products through education, advertising and business support. The Company provides environmental training for staff and encourages partners to work to this or a similar policy. As part of this policy, the Company has set itself the following objectives and targets, reflecting the most significant environmental aspects of its operations that have been identified:

  • Crystal Doors will be applying a new roof over the premises to increase the property´s insulation.
  • Insulate the cladding of the walls to increase thermal property of the premises.
  • Collect rainwater from the roof to reduce water rates and use the recycled water.
  • Implement the study of Crystal Doors´ carbon footprint for the premises and the production of doors.
  • Sustain and improve on our Environmental Performance Indicators with the support of Groundwork.

Successes of the last 12 months

  • From 18 tonnes of waste going into landfill in 2007-08, our impressive figures were 11 tonnes in 2009-10. This year is expected to be below 7 tonnes.

  • Crystal Doors´ skip is emptied every other week, with a waste cost now under £1000 per year.

  • A hump magnet for taking metal out of waste wood has been purchased, allowing us to recycle other people´s waste wood.

  • Generate heat from our 300kW burner now using over 60 tonnes of waste wood a year.

  • All plastic and cardboard is recycled using a bailer reducing the mass to only four 40 ft articulated lorry loads each year.

  • Light switches are now zoned into 20 separate banks to reduce unnecessary illumination.

  • Specific lighting for areas needing extra lighting has been put in place to reduce overall lighting demand.

  • Noise levels are now below 80db for factory personnel due to re-organisation of machinery´s new positions.

  • Dust levels are reduced due to segregation of dusty operations and new equipment.

  • Six employees now car share to work, saving money and reducing our carbon footprint.

  • An Energy management report for the new premises has been carried out by Groundwork. The identified cost saving solutions are being implemented.

  • Electricity monitoring has been carried out by Groundwork for electrical consumption on each phase for total load and on specific machines. The identified cost saving solutions are being implemented.
